ORIANA OCHOA FIGUEIRA
Oriana Ochoa Figueira is a Marine Biology major from Caracas, Venezuela. Sensitive and observant to the forms and characters of ecological figures in our natural world, she captures moods and textures through her illustration practice. Enamored by the energy of her work, Jahier Studio decided to collaborate with her. These are our works, which above all, capture a trans-pacific friendship between two souls steadily inspired by nature, culture, and the experience of life.

MATICAS, 2017
Oriana and I share an affinity for nature and its many inspiring forms and colors. We decided to work on a slow and steady exchange, translating Oriana's illustration and painting practice into my embroidery work. Here, Oriana illustrated ferns draw from Venezuela's astonishing ecological variety and I minimalized the image, playing with lines and a reduction of color.

SELVA VENOZOLANA, 2016-17
This is the first collaboration between Oriana and I, and is also the most complex piece I've made to date. It was experimental in every sense: all about being playful and loose enough to translate Oriana's brilliant use of color and form into thousands of individual stitches. It was a joy and a challenge to make the departure from flat, blended gradients to chunky, texturized color combinations.
